The experience
The
Maltese Archipelago is made up of three inhabited islands and a few other
smaller uninhabited ones.
The three Islands that make up the Maltese Archipelago are Malta, the
largest; Gozo, the mythical isle of Calypso; and the tiny Comino, mainly
famous for its Blue Lagoon.
Together they form a very special diving destination at the heart of
the Mediterranean. They offer excellent diving for all levels of divers
with water temperatures in their mid twenties throughout the Summer months.
Malta
and Gozo are only a short flight away from most European airports and
offer as diverse a product as it gets. The islands offer some of the best
dives in the Mediterranean but also their historical and cultural attractions
as well as their beaches and picturesque villages are always a stone’s
throw away.
The waters around the Maltese Islands are some of the clearest waters
in the world with visibility often in excess of forty meters. The clear
water factor attracts hundreds of under water photographers each year.
Gozo has become famous for its caves and drop offs but also for its Marine
Life that flourishes on many of the sites. Groupers, dentex, octopi, gurnards
and hunting fish are common around Gozo.
There
are dive sites within walking distance from each other, some accessible
from the shore but others beneath the cliffs only accessible by boat.
Boats are also used to access the dive sites around Comino and Malta.
Several of the bays around Gozo make ideal locations for beginner dives,
night dives and training dives. The Gozo Dive Shops offer different levels
of Dive courses leading to certification of Internationally recognised
Diving agencies.
There are numerous dive sites around Gozo and each Dive Shop has its
own favourites. |
