The Ta Kola Windmill is found just a short walk away from the Ggantija Temples in Xaghra. It was built in 1725 and financed by the Order of St. John. The miller used to sound a large shell to communicate to his fellow villagers that the wind was right and they were to go to the windmill to process their wheat. The Mill was actually still inhabited until 1987. Its last occupier was Guzeppi a very skilled man son of the last miller Kola from whom the mill got its name. Exhibits include several old tools.

The show starts with a stop in the Neolithic age exhibiting Megalithic structures and then goes on to a mythology section where the legend of Calypso is narrated in a fascinating manner. The Roman period, the arrival of Christianity, the Arab domination, the Knights of St. John, the Great Siege, right up to the British colonisation follow in sequence. Emphasis is made to personalities who over the centuries have contributed to the island’s rich history and folklore.
