The Ministry for Gozo is responsible for all Government issues related
to the Island. It ensures that Gozo does not lack behind in any department
governed by a Ministry on the main island Malta. Since the Island is a
small one, the whole of Gozo is rightly considered to be a ‘Tourist
Area’ and everything that the ministry for Gozo deals with affects
tourism directly or indirectly. The Ministry is responsible for the Island’s
Infrastructure, education and transport amongst others.

The Malta Tourism Authotrity (MTA) regulates all Tourism businesses.
It ensures that Tourism operators are operating within the Law and enforces
standards. It is also responsible for the Improvement and continuous embellishment
of the Tourist product of both Malta and Gozo. The MTA is aware of the
importance of the Scuba Diving industry and has been recently investing
to enhance Malta’s diving product. The MTA has also been taking
an active part in the Marketing the Maltese Islands overseas is also the
job of the MTA. The main offices are in Valletta but the MTA also runs
a few overseas offices. Within the MTA’s structure is an office
directly responsible for the island Gozo. This ensures the best communication
between the MTA, the GTA and finally the Gozo segment operators.

Most Gozo Dive Shops are members of the ‘Gozo Tourism Association’
(GTA). The GTA groups most of Gozo’s Tourism oriented businesses.
It works to soften the effects of double insularity and to improve the
tourist Product in general. Since it’s beginning in 1999 the GTA
has worked hand in hand with the Ministry for Gozo, the Gozo Channel,
the MTA and other organisations and has achieved a great deal for the
Island.

Most diving centres on Malta and Gozo are members of the Professional
Dive Schools Association (PDSA), an organisation that considers the safety
and well being of divers paramount. It also works to ensure that dive
sites are protected and accessible.
 MMF

The Malta Marine Foundation (MMF) was only quite recently founded with
the main aim of protecting and bettering the Maltese Marine environment.
Most Maltese dive shops were proudly the founding members of this association
together with the local amateur dive clubs. The benefit of the enhancement
of the underwater environment automatically means the bettering of our
Diving Product. The Marine Foundation has already organised a number
of clean ups and fund raising activities. Posters and cards were circulated
around all dive shops and all local divers and visiting tourists are
invited to donate €5 to their good cause.
